What is it all about?

Welcome to "My Community Fish Box" your local weekly or fortnightly fresh fish and shell fish collection run by Chantelle Williams wife of a local fisherman based in Emsworth, Hampshire.

"My Community Fish Box" is a Community Supported Fishery (CSF) it's all about encouraging healthy eating, supporting your local fisherman, protecting our seas and local heritage while supplying you with super fresh fish and shell fish.

We are now in our third year of running this fantastic Fish Box. Only a few years ago all of our catch was shipped abroad, creating huge food miles and our community was missing out on Fresh Fish, that has now changed and nearly all of our daily catch is sold locally.

You can be involved as much or as little as you like. You are more than welcome to volunteer at our hub and meet new friends and fish lovers.

Our aim is to get fresh fish direct to our local community and learn you how to prepare and cook it, all for only £7 per kilo, while supporting our under 10 meter UK fleet.

How does it work?

You order a weekly or fortnightly collection of fresh fish or shell fish. The fish box scheme is WHOLE fish, but don't be scared if your not used to preparing whole fish, we will learn you along the way.

You order online (on this page) when sign up in open and pay for the entire season at the start via a bank transfer. You will then be sent numerous updates including your collection dates.

We aim to be starting our next collection mid-end October.

The Fish.

You never know what fish is going to be there for you but that's all part of it, it all depends on what Peter and the other boats catch that day.

We have species such as Huss, Bass, Bream, Grey Mullet, Dover Sole, Mackerel, Plaice, Gurnard, Cod and much more it all depends on the time of year and what's about swimming in our Solent!

You are buying a share of the fisherman's catch for that day, because you can never get a fish that weighs exactly a kilo you may sometimes get slightly over or under your weight but during the season we shall ensure you have received the full weight you have paid for.

What happens if the boat cant get out?

Sometimes it is just impossible for Peter and the other boats to get out this maybe due to weather or tide restrictions but if that happens you won't lose out, we just roll the season on an extra week and you will be notified as soon as possible via a text message or phone call.

How much does it cost?

There is no membership fee for our new community fish box collection, but we do ask for a small admin fee of £3 per season, this is to go towards the running of the hub for things like ice, bags etc.

The cost for the fish is £7 per kilo per week (1-2 kilo orders) or fortnightly and you pay for the 6-12 week season in advance.

So for example if you order:

1 kilo for 12 weeks =£84 + £3 admin fee = Total £87

 1 kilo for 6 weeks (fortnightly collection = £42 + £3 admin fee £45.

Our Hubs (Collection Locations)

Our Community hubs are a huge part of the 'Community Fish Box'.

They are the key to making it all work. Our hubs are easy to reach places within the community. Both of our hubs allow us to be there free of charge, which allows your price of fish to remain at £7 per kilo, so you can continue with a healthy diet.
